Atex Freight Broker Training, Inc. Adds Associate to Accommodate New Business

As more and more trucking firms seek to add to their bottom line, more demand is placed on mentors who are able to provide quality freight broker training.

El Paso, TX (PRWEB) August 10, 2006 –- Yvonne Natividad has joined Atex Freight Broker Training, Inc. as an associate to help meet current and projected client demand for freight (truck) broker training. Yvonne is a graduate of this program and is now owner of her own truck broker business operating out of El Paso, Texas.

John D. Thomas, President and sole owner of Atex Freight Broker Training, Inc. states that Yvonne’s addition to the business is making a huge, positive impact. “I just couldn’t handle all the business myself.” John further states that “Yvonne was an excellent student-client because she displayed an unusual amount of serious business maturity. She also was extremely well organized and was able to grasp the details without losing focus on the bigger picture.

”Yvonne says that “Being a freight broker myself, I have been able to share my experiences with my clients. Brokering loads myself has made training easier and I am able to let our clients know the great benefits of becoming a freight broker. I love being self employed and making money out of my own home. Anyone can become a broker, whether they have had previous experience in the trucking industry or not - it is possible.

”Yvonne’s husband, Chris, is also a truck driver and often times Yvonne and Chris provide good moral and technical support for each other.

Atex Freight Broker Training, Inc. is in their third year of training and have doubled their growth each year. John anticipates the pace to grow further due to an increased market penetration from marketing efforts and from the pent up demand from trucking firms who are finding freight brokering as a profitable supplement to their trucking operation.

John goes on to state that “With our unique approach of using the telephone and internet for our training, our clients don’t even have to leave their home or office. There are a good number of clients who train from their truck or while on the road. This is a big benefit for those who cannot drop everything and leave home, or their truck, to travel to a distant city for training.

10 Quick Tips for Hotel, Motel Safety

Take your common sense with you when you leave home and use these easy tips to stay safe while on the road.

Kingman, AZ (PRWEB) August 17, 2006 -- Take your common sense with you when you leave home and use these easy tips to stay safe while on the road.

When registering, use a last name and first initial. Don't use Mr., Mrs.,titles or degrees. The less information about you and your gender or status, the less information a criminal will have.

Try not to say a room number in public. If a desk clerk announces a room number and people are in the room, ask for another room. They should write the number down or point to it on a map, not say it out loud. Once a thief hears a room number and maybe a name, everything is easy. They can find you;watch you and maybe even charge things to your room. Ever just been asked for a room number at the hotel restaurant?

Take a couple hotel business cards. Put one by the phone in the room, and one in a wallet or car. You may need to tell someone where you are or ask for directions to get back to the hotel.

Check the locks on your rooms. You should have deadbolts and peepholes. Also check the windows and interconnecting doors to see how they open and how they lock.

Take a wood wedge or buy a small portable alarm wedge to put under your door when everyone is inside your room. The door will not open, even if smashed.

Interior rooms are safer compared to outside rooms. Criminals can't monitor your activities as easily.

If you have a balcony, check out the door accessing it and the railings.Make sure your child can't climb up onto the edge of the balcony.

Use the room safe if you have one. Don't leave valuables in plain sight.

Throw used underwear and socks over top of small items. People may not want to look through dirty clothes for something that isn't already in plain sight.Note emergency exits and stairways as you check in. Know where to go in case of emergency and set a meeting point outside (by your car, restaurant acrossthe street, etc) for your family. Also note that fire department ladders can only reach up to the sixth floor.

Make sure everyone carries some form of id at all times. Make a card up for your children. Include recent photo, name, address, phone number, parents' names, allergies, age and birth date, and emergency contact back home. Use a laminate sleeve and tuck an updated slip of paper on other side with the name of hotel and phone number (or a tucked in business card)

Tips for Summer Safety Online: How to Recognize and Avoid Scams as One Wades Through the Pool of Online Jobs

By taking the proper precautions, the Web can be a safe and effective place for you to find that perfect job. These five tips can help you avoid the phishers and fraudsters and safely navigate through the pool of online job listings.

(PRWEB) July 17, 2006 -- Maybe you’ve just graduated from college and are looking for your first “real” job, or perhaps the summer season has caused a slow-down in your work and you’re on the prowl for something new. Whatever the reasons, summer is a great time to start digging through a sea of online listings to find the dream job.

Everyone takes some type of precaution when setting out for summer fun, such as using sunscreen or life vests. However, few people have the same cautious attitude when embarking on their online job hunt. The Internet has made searching for jobs a snap, but it has also opened up the doors to online fraudsters out to get the unsuspecting surfer.

“The Internet has proven to be the best tool for finding a job,” said JillXan Donnelly, president of The Career Exposure Network™. “However, far too many people are fooled by the promises of money for nothing and can be easily lured into a scam. We all need to keep in mind that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

While online job banks can be a great resource for helping one narrow down the seemingly endless pool of listings, not all sites are equal. In order to maximize your job searching efforts and attempt to avoid online scams, one should look for an online job bank that includes detailed postings from reputable companies.

By taking the proper precautions, the Web can be a safe and effective place for someone to find that perfect job. These five tips from Consumer Affairs can help one avoid the phishers and fraudsters and safely navigate through the pool of online job listings:

1. Do not disclose your Social Security Number.

2. Do not give out financial information.

3. Check the company’s contact info and Web site.

4. Watch for indications that the listing is bogus – misspellings/bad grammar, email address not affiliated with the company’s domain name, etc.

5. Be cautious of postings from overseas employers.

Additional resources to enhance job searches can be found at The Career Exposure Network sites, including career development tools, career and employment news, professional associations and employment opportunities across the US. New Marine Mammal Visitor Center Opens in the Marin Headlands

The Marine Mammal Center has opened a new Marine Mammal Visitor Center while its main hospital is being remodeled. It is located in Sausalito at Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands and will be open to the public between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily except Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

Sausalito, CA (PRWEB)July 17, 2006 -- The Marine Mammal Center, in cooperation with the National Park Service, has opened a new Marine Mammal Visitor Center and gift store inside a historical World War II mess hall building in Fort Cronkhite in the Marin Headlands. The new visitor center, located inside Building 1049, is designed to educate the public about the work done at The Center as well as about marine mammal and ocean health. Visitors will also get a glimpse into the history of the mess hall. Currently, The Center’s hospital is undergoing major renovations and while the daily activities of rescue and medical care continue, it is closed to visitors until that work is completed. It is expected to be re-opened to the public in the fall of 2007.

“The new visitor center will allow us to continue to speak directly to visitors from all around the world who come here to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Marin Headlands and who are interested in learning about marine mammals, our work and ocean health,” said Jim Oswald, Communications Manager at The Marine Mammal Center. “Building 1049 has a distinct history, and we’re grateful to the National Park Service for allowing us its temporary use.”

The 170-man mess hall was built to feed soldiers. It exemplifies a typical U.S. Army style dining facility. In the early 1940s, the U.S. Army patterned hundreds of similar wood-frame, temporary military posts for the wartime training and housing of soldiers. By some estimates, more than 100,000 of these buildings were constructed around the country.

The Marine Mammal Visitor Center will house seal, sea lion, whale, and other marine mammal artifacts and educational materials for the public to view. In addition, visitors will be able to look at a 3-D model representation of what the new Marine Mammal Center will look like.

A special internet-enabled computer terminal connected to The Center’s webcam will allow guests to take a peak at current seal and sea lion patients at the hospital. Docents will be on hand to answer questions about The Center and our mission. Visitors can also shop for many marine mammal collectibles, t-shirts, cards and books at the gift store located inside the building.

Marine Mammal Visitor Center hours: Beginning July 17, open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Location: Building 1049 across from the pedestrian bridge at Rodeo Beach, Marin Headlands.

About The Marine Mammal Center

Headquartered in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Sausalito, California, The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit hospital dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals, and to the research of their health and diseases. Volunteers and staff have treated more than 12,000 California sea lions, elephant seals, porpoises, and other marine mammals, along 600-miles of coastline stretching from Mendocino County to San Luis Obispo County. Staff and volunteers uniquely combine rehabilitation with scientific discovery and education programs to advance the understanding of marine mammal health, ocean health and conservation.

About Fort Cronkhite

Fort Cronkhite, located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, was home for soldiers from various U.S. Coast Artillery Regiments. The beachside barracks were completed in 1941 and housed hundreds of Coast Artillery soldiers assigned to the Army’s sprawling harbor defenses of San Francisco. In the 1950s, the Army constructed two batteries of surface-to-air missiles – known as Nike-Hercules missiles. The Fort Cronkhite battery was closed in 1972, and three years later, The Marine Mammal Center began its operations on site.

Don't Buy Travel Insurance if You Need Cover for Tropical Storm Chris!

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla., Aug. 4, 2006 -- If you are traveling to an area that could be affected by Tropical Storm Chris and you haven't already bought travel insurance then think carefully before you buy. You cannot make a claim for losses related to the storm as it was named BEFORE you purchased insurance.

A named event clause exists within most policies to protect the insurance companies by stopping people claiming if they purchased insurance knowing something bad may happen. As soon as a tropical depression becomes a tropical storm and gets a name, insurance companies will not provide coverage.

Most travelers assume they are covered in the event of a mandatory evacuation. While this is true of some policies, you may be surprised to find that this coverage is not provided for most of the products on the market.

The term "mandatory evacuation" is not mentioned in most insurance certificates. Where it is listed, it relates to non-weather evacuation. You should instead look for the following terms:

1) Complete cessation of your Common Carrier services for 24 hours
2) Complete cessation of your travel supplier services for 24 hours
3) Accommodation at destination rendered uninhabitable

1) Complete cessation of your Common Carrier usually means the airport closing for a number of hours before a claim is valid. If your accommodation is under a mandatory evacuation order and the airport stays open you cannot make a claim. If you are driving, you may not be covered because you do not have a Common Carrier that has ceased services.

2) Complete cessation of travel supplier is the term to look for. This usually means the accommodation has to be unavailable for a number of hours in order to claim. In this instance, you would be able to claim for a mandatory evacuation because your travel suppler can no longer provide you with accommodation. However, this coverage is only available if the accommodation is provided by a company licensed to provide that service, which most hotels or property managers would be.

3) Accommodation at destination rendered uninhabitable means your hotel, condo, etc. is either flooding or damaged so much you cannot continue to stay there. We assume you will have been evacuated long before this happens anyway so in most cases, you will be back to points 1 and 2.

One insurance agent (http://www.quotetravelinsurance.com) breaks down the hurricane coverage as a separate element detailing whether mandatory evacuation is covered without the need to wade through pages of policy certificates.

Detailed information on the hurricane benefits for all policies can be found HERE.

Full policy wording related to hurricane clauses can be found HERE.
